Transfer duty, bond registration and conveyancing fees are extra and usually paid upfront. The bank makes the final decision after checking your credit record and expenses.
How banks decide
Most South African banks will not approve a bond repayment above about 30% of your gross monthly income. They also look at your credit record, your other debts and your monthly expenses, so the amount they approve may be lower than this estimate.
Remember the upfront costs: transfer duty (on homes above the threshold), bond registration fees and conveyancing fees. Budget for these on top of your deposit.
