How to use this sheet: write what you actually spend in the Actual column during the month, then compare it with your plan at month end.

Percentages are worked out from your money in. The 50/30/20 split is a rule of thumb, not a target everyone can hit.

Using the printed sheet

Print it at the start of the month and keep it on the fridge or in your bag. Write what you actually spend in the Actual column as you go. At month end, compare it with your plan and adjust next month’s figures. Prefer paper from the start? Use Print blank sheet and fill it in by hand.

Is my information saved?

Your figures are saved in your own browser on this device only, so they are there when you come back. We never see them.

What is the 50/30/20 rule?

It is a rule of thumb: about half your take-home pay on needs, 30% on wants and 20% on savings and paying off debt. Many South African households spend more than half on needs, and that is fine. Use it as a guide, not a test.
